Hello, I am Claire, owner/operator of Paws Holidays.

I have lived with dog's all my life, and have been working professionally since 14 years old. I started in Kennels, then onto a canine course in Bell Mead, windsor. I then moved to Bedfordshire to train for City & Guilds in Dog Grooming. I worked in a few parlours, but did not agree with how they treated the dogs, so went self employed and never looked back!

My grooming business was named 'Posh Paws', and was very successfull. I was living in Swanage, Dorset, and since then I've now groomed dogs for approx 10 years, in Kent & Dorset.

After having a 4 year break (2 children later!), I set up Paws Holidays. We have been running for 2 years now, and we very much enjoy what we do - and the animals love seeing us as well! Their owners are also very happy - see Testimonials!

The Kind Approach

I believe that all animals should be treated with kindness, reward and huge understanding. This has taken years of experience - they all have different personalities like us. I like to work out why an animal is acting like they are first, then deal with it in positive and understanding way.  This espically is the case in grooming, as some animals may feel scared or frightened, some may be nervous, some need training and guidance, and some may have had other life experiences that have had a negative impact. Through positive interaction and reassurances, they soon learn that all is ok. It is better to make them feel at ease by talking to them, stroking, and giving off a happy vibe, rather than using negative methods. 

Of course, all dogs need training,  but I believe there are positive ways to do this. 

With puppy training, I use rewards, such as letting them know verbally how good they have been, and using treats and strokes/cuddles. Some dogs are very clever and need persistance, but I disagree with any hitting or any other negative type of training.
